Pulmonary Intravascular and Extravascular Fluid Volumes
نویسندگان
چکیده
Pulmonary extravascular (PEW) and intravascular (PBV) fluid volumes were measured during cardiac catheterization by a multiple indicator-dilution technique in 21 cardiac patients at rest and during exercise. Increased PEW at rest was clearly related to increased left atrial and pulmonary artery pressures but not to blood flow or pulmonary vascular resistance. Submaximal supine exercise produced increased intracardiac pressures and flow, with PEW and PBV significantly increased in most cases' and stable in a few. Transudation at higher pulmonary capillary pressures and increased capillary recruitment

متن کاملHemodynamic changes and fluid shifts after large-volume fluid infiltration: results from a porcine model.
While certain parameters such as blood loss and serum lidocaine levels following liposuction have been well studied, fluid shifts between the intravascular and extravascular space have not. With the advent of large volume liposuction, prudent fluid management has become obligatory. Hence, the reason for our study. To test the impact of large volume infiltration on intercompartmental fluid shifts...
متن کاملIncreases in plasma oncotic pressure during acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema.
Colloid osmotic pressure (COP) was measured in 95 patients with clinical and radiological evidence of acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema. Fifty patients who were admitted for coronary observation but in whom acute myocardial infarctin was excluded, and 21 patients who had sustained acute myocardial infarction without evidence of left ventricular failure served as controls. Significantly higher ...
متن کاملHypertonic saline solutions in shock resuscitation.
Hypertonic saline solutions (HSS) have several characteristics that may improve the survival of patients during the initial treatment of certain types of shock. The use of isotonic crystalloids for resuscitation has several limitations: large infusion volumes are needed to increase the intravascular space; these large volumes cannot be given rapidly; and the fluid rapidly redistributes througho...
متن کاملExtravascular lung water measurements and hemodynamic monitoring in the critically ill: bedside alternatives to the pulmonary artery catheter.
The recently completed Fluid and Catheter Treatment Trial conducted by the National Institutes of Health ARDSNetwork casts doubt on the value of routine pulmonary artery catheterization for hemodynamic management of the critically ill. Several alternatives are available, and, in this review, we evaluate the theoretical, validation, and empirical databases for two of these: transpulmonary thermo...
